Samsung Health Compatible Smart scale: Renpho ES-CS20M
It could sound strange, but Samsung does not produce a scale that can automatically upload weight measurement results to Samsung health.
So, if one wants to have all data in the same place, one can either enter values manually or use 3rd party scales which can synchronize the data with Samsung Health.
I started from the first approach. But later I decided to try the second one. And since I was going to play with smart scales, why not try scales that can estimate my body fat percentage. I highlight the word “estimate” because scales do not measure your body composition. Instead, they measure how electricity goes through your body, and based on this information, known body parameters (weight, size, sex) and, I believe, statistic data estimates your body composition.
Actually, in most cases, all these calculations are done by a smartphone app, not scales itself. This is why most scales show on their screen your weight only.
There are a lot of materials explaining how body composition analysis works, what it can and what it can not, how to use scales to get usable results, how to use the results a wise way, and so on. If you do not know this yet, simply ask google.
I have chosen scales called “Renpho ES-CS20M” — reasonable priced, good ratings, support multiple users… sounds like a good package to give it a try.
Moreover, the scales can calculate the following body parameters:
- Weight 😁
- BMI
- Body Fat
- Fat-free Body Weight
- Subcutaneous Fat
- Visceral Fat
- Body Water
- Skeletal Muscle
- Muscle Mass
- Bone Mass
- Protein
- BMP
- Metabolic Age
Cool list, isn’t it?
Scales description on Amazon promised that the scales can “sync with Samsung Health, Apple Health, Google Fit, and Fitbit App”.
But what exactly can it sync? I googled, but have not found an answer. Therefore, I purchased the scales and checked this my self.
And now share the result with you.
Renpho ES-CS20M synchronizes with Samsung Health:
- Weight
- Body Fat
- BMI
Renpho ES-CS20M synchronizes with Google Fit:
- Weight
Yes, the list contains one entry.
It looks like Google Fit does not support any other parameters at all. This is rather strange for an app that pretends to be a health data hub — in theory, it should support as many parameters as possible.
For me, this is one more area where Samsung Health demonstrates better functionality than Google Fit as a long-term health and fitness data hub. But still, far from perfect.
PS: Renpho app can export all measured and calculated data in a CSV file, this opens endless possibilities for analyses and visualizations.
