The Garmin Apps and Watchfaces I Actually Use

As the title says this post is about the applications, which are installed on my Garmin watch (Venu 3). To be more specific, the applications that I do really use more or less regularly.
Don’t worry – the list is not long. It cannot be long – you can install up to 32 applications on the Venu 3 (watch faces are counted as well).

Watch faces

I have about 10 installed, but the ones I really use are:

Applications

Garmin Calculator

Nice looking calculator on steroids that supports features like currency conversion. I have never used any of the advanced features, but I have used the basic math once or twice. Nice to have for “just in case” scenarios.

Compasses

Compass (ABC) and my ABC
I installed them not to use a compass, but because Garmin decided that I only need to know my altitude when I’m tracking a hike or I’m happy to put the altitude directly on the watch face. This is wrong. My usage scenarios are different. For example, I check my altitude outside of exercise tracking as well. For example, before and after riding up in a cable car. Both apps show this information and also the changes over the last 6 hours.
I cannot decide which I like more, so I have both on my watch.

Sun (and moon) Information

As far as I know, the Garmin Weather app on Fenix watches shows sunrise and sunset times. Not on the venu3. Probably, because Garmin thinks that only the real outdoor guys need this information, and the Venu3 is a not an outdoor watch.
To compensate for this gap I have installed “Sun & Moon Times” and “Sun Times”. Both show more than just sunrise and sunset times and not just for today – nice apps. Again I keep both, but as a “glance” I use “Sun Times”,

UV Index

The Garmin Weather app shows the UV index, but not in the glance, without a forecast and you have to do a lot of swiping to reach the corresponding screen.
The UV index is important for me, so I have a “UV Index Widget. Forecast at a glance” installed on my watch. It has a glance with UV value and offers a forecast for the whole day. I used it a lot during the summer.

WeekCalendar

I need this monthly view to check what day of a week a particular date will be or how many weeks are still left in the current month. Rather often I do this on my watch. It is a shame that Garmin does not offer this out of the box, WeekCalender fills this gap. It also shows the week number and the day number.

Komoot

This one is simple. I use Komoot when I go hiking.

Walk with Frodo

Last, but not least – “Walk with Frodo”. Sort of a Garmin expedition, but where your steps are applied to Frodo’s journey to Mordor. The app also counts intermediate milestones (60, if I recall correctly). I still have a long way to go.

That’s it. If you know other applications worth installing on the watch – let me know in the comments!
